Our Artists

Lynette Hirst

For 16 years I’ve enjoyed working with clay but its only in the last 5 years I’ve been able to dedicate myself fulltime to this form of art.

Every item I create is designed, coloured, formed, structured, melded or decorated and fired by my hand and all pieces are totally unique. No two are the same. It’s a bit of a cliché, but I consult with my eye and the natural beauty around me to create an abstract alternative. Artwork that can fit into any environment and give lifelong pleasure.

I have mastered various techniques, some traditional and others like nerikomi, a complicated Japanese method originating from China 2000 years ago. This process involves constructing hand coloured clays to build up multi coloured blocks to eventually make absolutely unique pieces.

Over the last 4 years my works have been selected for the Suter Gallery, Earth and Fire, Contemporary Ceramics Exibition. My works are available in selected galleries around New Zealand, and from my workshop/gallery in Tasman, Nelson. Much of my works are to be found in homes throughout New Zealand and some have gone to destinations overseas.
