Our Artists

Rosalind Moseby

My life began growing up on a farm in Southland, New Zealand. As a young child I would often watch my grandfather paint landscapes with oils.

This was the beginning of a lifelong love of art.

I began experimenting with acrylic and watercolour, the colourful combinations I achieved on canvas inspired me to try an alternative media.

My choice of media became feathers.  Natures beauty with its infinite variations in shape and colour never ceases to amaze me and is the inspiration of my art.

All my materials are sourced locally from farming and hunting friends.  The feathers provided enables me to leave them in natural form.

Through my art I attempt to capture an everlasting image to which one can continually enjoy.

Each art piece I create is unique within itself, though many feathers used are similar, the design of each piece varies.

I have titled and numbered my feather art work under the name “huruhuru” which is the Maori word for feathers.

Maori believe feathers to be “Chiefly” and are used to adorn the garments of high ranking tribe members.

I feel my art work reflects on the history of New Zealand.
